Student Assistant Overtime

Definition of Overtime
Work more than 40 hours in a workweek; the workweek is defined by policy as Monday through Sunday.

Assignment of Overtime
Students normally work fewer than 20 hours per week while classes are in session. They may work up to full time during quarter and summer breaks with their supervisor's approval. If overtime is anticipated, the supervisor must request approval via e-mail to their Personnel/Payroll Representative prior to the student working any hours above 40/week.

Compensation for Overtime
Divisional practice is to pay students for approved overtime, versus approving overtime for compensatory time off.

Hours worked over 40 will be paid at time and one-half; in weeks with holidays, hours on pay status (both work and holiday hours) up to 40 will be paid at straight time with any additional hours worked over 40 being paid at time and one-half.
