Administration > Business Office > Personnel/Payroll > Student Assistant Employees Student Employment While on Leave When considering an official leave, undergraduate students should contact their advisor and the Registrar's Office. An undergraduate student in an on-campus Student Assistant position at the time leave of absence status is officially approved by the Registrar may, at the supervisor's request, retain that position for three months only (excluding summer). If the student has previously had work study status, the unit must pay 100% of the cost of salary during the leave. Wages earned during the leave are subject to DCP/Medicare withholding since the student does not have the minimum number of units needed to remain exempt. (See Student FICA & Retirement). Note: Graduate Students should contact their advisor and the Graduate Division re: eligibility to work during a leave of absence or while on filing fee status.
