Awards are subject to the availability of funding for this program.
Purpose
The purpose of this award program is to reward student employees for exceptional performance and/or contributions to the UCSC campus. Awards are only for students who have demonstrated exemplary work performance.
Eligibility
-
a registered graduate or undergraduate student hired through the Career Center or
a CUIP intern, whether a UCSC employee or not is eligible; students in Academic positions (e.g. readers and tutors) are not eligible
-
student is in good academic standing
- employed for at least three months during the academic year
Types of awards
Awards consist of:
- a cash amount, less applicable taxes (checks are released on students' normal pay day in July) The Division of Physical and Biological Sciences offers, depending on availability of funding, two levels of awards:
Tier 1 ($250)- for extraordinary contributions or performance over a sustained period of time and having an exceptional impact. If necessary to meet budgetary target, priority may be given to those employed for 12 months or more in the same unit.
Tier 2 ($150)- for significant contributions or performance and having a considerable impact. If necessary to meet budgetary target, priority may be given to those employed for 6 months or more in the same unit.
- a certificate of appreciation
- an invitation to a May reception in the students' honor, and
- a congratulatory letter from the Career Center Director, mailed to the student's place of employment.
Approximate timeline (for exact dates, call the Business Office, 9-2223)
- February: supervisors of students are asked to submit nominations. Nomination Form (PDF or Word) for awards to the Business Office (usually by mid- March).
- March: Nominations are reviewed by the Division and those meeting Division criteria are forwarded to the Career Center for review of the student's academic standing.
- April: The Career Center notifies the Business Office, who in turn informs the supervisor, of any student nominee who is ineligible for an award because of their academic standing. Invitations to the award ceremony are sent to students and their supervisors. RSVP's are returned to the Career Center.
- May: Awards ceremony
- June: Check requests are sent to central Payroll Office by Physical and Biological Sciences Business Office
- July: Checks released
